Nowhere. Spain, 2005 – 2011.
Curator/Queen of Arts, Board Member, and Founder of nonprofit branch of festival Nowhere (growingnowhere).

Nowhere is an event which is hard to explain. You could say its the European version of Burning Man.

It’s a week long “project” in the desert (in Northern Spain), based on an ethos of radical self reliance and participation.

Tessa had a leadership role in the development of Nowhere, as a key community member, then leader of the art team, and board member. As well as creating large scale pieces for the event as an artist, as a producer, Tessa was the architect for the grants program (leading a team of six to ten people), founding a non profit branch of the event (called growing nowhere) for the development of arts projects in local Spanish communities. Over the seven years Tessa was involved as a core member in the community, supported hundreds of artists producing work at the event, started and developed the artistic themes of the event, and led the training and development of other volunteers in the community.

Nowhere is a community of several thousand spread over over 30 countries across Europe and the world. It is a project which will always remain close to Tessa’s heart.

Tessa Wills is a live artist

and choreographer with a background in music. She is from England, trained in central Europe and now lives in San Francisco. Her work elevates flaws and wounds as portals, ways of staging humanity, and often integrates eroticism to charge the pieces, which happen primarily on stage and video. Aside from the relentless pull of desire, her current practice is inspired by Hermits and professional mourning.
